(1) THE CATEGORIES OF DISABILITIES No one adequate categorisation of special education needs exists, as these needs have a variety of origins and are manifested in the classroom in different ways. Students may have special education needs arising from the following different conditions - any of which may have a minimal to profound impact on their learning. The different types of categories are listed below: 1) cognitive disability 2) physical disability 3) severe medical condition 4) hearing impairment 5) vision impairment 6) language disorder 7) specific learning difficulty 8) emotional disorders and behavioural disorders 9) Multiple disabilities - this is a combination of 2 or more of the above disabilities . (2) LEARNING SUPPORT POLICY VITIL Training aim to provide an inclusive programme for students with disabilities. Where necessary, our courses allow students with identified special educational needs the inherent right of respect for their human worth and dignity and to realise their individual capacity for spiritual, physical, social, emotional and intellectual development. Vitil Training lecturers and staff aim: (1) To protect and foster the dignity of the student with special needs by a personal model of professionalism. (2) To foster a secure, safe, caring and accepting training environment. (3) To give the student every opportunity for the development of self-concept and self-esteem. (4) Assist the student with special educational needs, to develop strengths and abilities in the social, emotional and academic aspects of their education. (5) To promote an environment in the classroom which will allow for the acceptance of the uniqueness and the differences of each student. (6) To enable special needs students to reach their full potential the following are offered, depending on the needs of the student:
(3) PROCEDURE FOR IDENTIFICATION OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS During the initial course booking process, VITIL Training will identify students with special needs and discuss their requirements with them prior to the course. VITIL Training will then ensure that the classroom environment and material are adapted as necessary to meet the student’s needs in a dignified and professional manner. The lecturer will be briefed on the student’s requirements and the situation will be actively monitored throughout the course. |
